Burmite
is a variety of Amber found
in Burma and named for this locality. It is from the
Cretaceous Period and first documented in Burma in 1836.
Burmite is fluorescent and glows a beautiful blue under
shortwave (SW) UV light.
Amber
is a fossil resin that is a mixture of hydrocarbons, resins, succinic
acid and oils. It is the fossilized resin
of pine trees from about 30 million years ago. For more information please

Distribution:
Tanai, Hukawng Valley and Maingkwan, Myitkyina-Mogaung District,
Kachin State, Burma (Myanmar).
